Stop driving so @#$% much!

One person can make a difference. Cut down on driving! Walk, take public transportation, carpool, combine trips. Your dependence on foreign oil is nobody's fault but your own. (Obviously, the same goes for me.) And as the graph at the bottom illustrates, gas prices can still go way, way up.

We'll either have to start driving less by force or by choice. Make it the latter. Personally, I find a lot of satisfaction in taking TRAX to work, carpooling and walking when I can. Matt and Andrea ride their bikes to work. I'm certainly not perfect at this (especially this week with a sick newborn). But if you haven't tried any of those alternate methods of transportation I highly encourage you to do so.

  1. I wish Provo had better transportation.

  2. This would be a lot more powerful if you talked about how YOU drive less. Instead, it just sounds like you're lecturing me without even knowing what I do to cut down on my gasoline use.

  3. Erin - Amen. Most of the western U.S. has pretty lame public transportation.

  4. Laura - Good suggestion. I was worried about it sounding a little too "lecturey" when I wrote it. I went back and edited the post.

  5. Nashville has atrocious public transportation. It's really abysmal. However, I just moved closer to work and will be biking to school most days. It's not purely high-minded environmentalism, though -- it was pricey to drive in from the suburbs.

  6. I just keep my car dirty. That way I'm reminded that I have a dirty car and if anyone rides with me they can help deter me from driving the next time.

  8. I like that you have a blog. I like that you are able to rant and talk about things that YOU feel are important. I like that you lecture me about how I use to much gas. You have guilt me into going green! Oh yeah, laura is on notice.

  9. Matt - Any time I can help you with that, just let me know.

Hugh - I wish I had the option to telecommute.

    Brad - Thank you.
