Diggnation mention

Thanks to my good fortune of submitting the 8 Core Mac Pro story to Digg, I was mentioned on the Diggnation videocast. Tipped off to the fact by Benvolio via Duchess (yes, I used to write for the 100 Hour Board) I downloaded the video.

Unfortunately, there's no love for rathofbuns.

"..submitted by...rathofbuns? Man we've got some ****'d-up users."

I edited the 40-something minute videocast down to a few seconds and muted the bad words. See the clip here.

  1. Thanks for saving my ears.

  2. You're welcome. It's amazing how stupid people sound when they swear.

  3. I think they sound even stupider when you take out the swearing. Expletives really don't make any sense. Half of what they said in the video really wasn't intelligible, it was just random profanity.

Kudos again on getting digged. You're my hero.

  4. Peter - Thanks. It would have been, well, significant if it had been content I'd produced instead of found but I'll take what I can get.

  5. No, I think it deserves major props. You are clearly an experienced Digg user. Digg posts live and die by the title, and yours told everyone just what they wanted to see. And you picked a brand item, albeit somewhat fortuitously, that a dedicated audience would like. A job well done.

By the way, I'm not a Mac user -- I prefer Ubuntu Linux for work and Windows for games. But that beauty makes me want to switch and never go back. I have to remind myself of the joys of open source to snap myself out of it. Oh, and the $3,000 pricetag helps.

  6. Peter: thanks for the compliment. I guess my job as a copywriter is finally paying off. :)

I have to admit I'm a bit intrigued by Linux, Ubuntu, etc. Why do you like them? I'm under the impression you have to really be into programming to make them worth your while. Is that true?

  7. I apologize for totally hijacking the thread, but I've become a big Ubuntu fan over the last year. Their thing is "Linix for humans." You don't need to know code or anything else to use Ubuntu. Almost everything you need comes pre-installed, and it has a installer program that downloads and installs any other programs you want. It looks pretty smooth, too, probably more like a Mac than a Windows PC.

I actually recommend you download and burn one of their live CD's. At the very least it's fun to play with. It loads up right off the CD so you don't even have to install it. I would probably switch over full time if it weren't for video games. There are ways to run Windows games on Linux, but they're too complicated for me.

  8. Don't worry about the thread. Heck, this is most comments I've ever had for a post. :)

While I'd be interested to try Ubuntu, I don't know what benefit it would bring overall. The idea of booting it off a CD and not having to fiddle with my current setups is an awesome feature though.
