It really isn't like a dam bursting, is it? That makes it sound rather dramatic.
Incidentally, there was a very funny scene in the Coneheads movie where they have their baby. Like everything else, it was an experience of "mass quantities." When the mom's water broke, it flooded their apartment. :-)
